How the Nutrition Program Finder Works
You don't need to know which school you want yet. Tell the nutrition program finder which credential you're after and what you want from the degree, and it does the comparing for you.
You Answer Six Questions
The credential you want, your degree level, online or campus, where you live, the job you picture and what matters most.
We Check 167 Programs
The program finder keeps the programs that fit your answers, then reads each one's own description against what you told us.
You Get Five Matches
Each match shows where it leads (RDN, NDTR or a nutrition degree), a match percentage and a link to its place in our rankings.
Start with the Registered Dietitian Question
The biggest split in nutrition isn't online versus campus. It's whether a program is accredited by ACEND, because only ACEND routes lead to the registered dietitian (RDN) exam. That's why the program finder asks it first.
Coordinated and Graduate Programs
These 36 programs put the coursework and the supervised practice in one, so you finish ready to sit the RDN exam. All of them award a graduate degree, and 31 let you do your supervised practice where you live.
Dietetic Internships
A dietetic internship is the supervised practice on its own. You apply once your DPD coursework is done. There are 36 with online coursework in our data, and each one offers a master's alongside the internship.
Didactic Programs (DPD)
A DPD gives you the ACEND coursework and nothing else. 13 of our 17 are bachelor's degrees. After one you still need a graduate degree and an internship, though you can sit the NDTR exam once you finish.
Other Nutrition Degrees
The other 71 programs are nutrition degrees with no ACEND route joined to them, and 15 are at schools with no ACEND program at all. They suit coaching, wellness, food and research careers. Don't count on one for the RDN unless ACEND lists that exact degree.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration has required a graduate degree for the RDN exam since 2024. See which ACEND programs you can finish without moving in our online RDN programs report, or compare them all in the ACEND program directory.

Your Career Goal
117 programs cover clinical nutrition, 106 community and public health, 39 sports nutrition and 24 wellness or integrative nutrition.
What Matters to You
Low tuition, supervised practice near home, a part-time schedule or a shorter program all change which programs rise to the top.
Where You Live
In-state tuition where it applies, and programs based in 41 states.
Which Nutrition Program Fits Your Career Goal?
Clinical Dietitian
Most hospital and clinic dietitian jobs ask for the RDN, so you'll need an ACEND route and a graduate degree. 117 programs in our data cover medical nutrition therapy. Start with our online master's in nutrition rankings and the registered dietitian career guide.
Sports Nutrition
A sports dietitian is an RDN first, and the CSSD board certification in sports dietetics requires the RDN. 39 programs mention sports nutrition or human performance. If you don't need the RDN, a nutrition science master's can still get you into coaching and performance roles.
Community and Public Health Nutrition
WIC clinics, food banks and health departments hire both RDNs and nutrition graduates. 106 programs cover community or public health nutrition, and several pair it with an MPH. Our applied nutrition rankings list the non-RDN options.
Nutrition Coaching and Wellness
Many states let you coach on general nutrition without a license, but most protect the title “dietitian.” 24 programs focus on wellness or integrative nutrition. Read dietitian vs nutritionist before you choose, so you know what each title lets you do.
Why the Nutrition Program Finder Shows Close Matches
Some answers leave fewer than five programs. Only 9 associate programs are in our data, for example. When that happens, the program finder lists the exact fits first, then close matches that miss one answer, and each card names the answer it misses so you can decide whether it matters.
